Activity with Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder

On Tuesday, 26th August 2025, students from ENGRO Model School visited Noor-e-Sahar Special Education School (NSSES), Daharki, and generously provided interactive games for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This activity was part of ongoing efforts to create inclusive learning experiences and strengthen community partnerships in special education.

The visiting students spent quality time with NSSES learners, participating in engaging activities designed to encourage social, cognitive, and emotional development. Among these, the most impactful task was playing Connect Four, a strategy-based board game. Students with ASD enthusiastically took part, focusing on placing colored discs into the vertical grid with the goal of aligning four discs in a row—horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

Why Connect Four?

The activity of playing Connect Four was not only enjoyable but also deeply beneficial for students with special needs. Some key outcomes included:

  • Cognitive Development: Strengthened logical thinking, strategy formation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Fine Motor Skills: Handling and placing the discs improved hand–eye coordination and motor control.
  • Social Interaction: Encouraged turn-taking, patience, and peer-to-peer communication in a natural setting.
  • Sensory Engagement: The colorful discs and tactile game play provided valuable sensory stimulation.
  • Behavioral Benefits: The structured rules of the game enhanced attention span, impulse control, and task completion.

This simple yet effective game turned into a powerful learning tool, promoting skill development while also fostering an inclusive and joyful environment of interaction between children from both schools.
